NACM members were recently in Anaheim, California, for the 2008 annual conference.
The theme,
Partnering for Justice, Case Management, and Service Excellence,
gave members the opportunity to explore the courts’ relationships with other entities and to discover ways to make improvements and to maintain good court practices and programs.
Presiding Judge Nancy Wieben Stock of Orange County welcomed NACM members as the conference opened Monday
morning. A keynote address by Ed Rigsbee kicked off the education segment of the conference, which featured workshops on the topic of Partnering for Justice and Effectiveness.

During the lunch business meeting and awards ceremony, Past President Skip Chesshire presented the Chesshire Award, named in
honor of his parents, to Mark Stodola of Tempe, Arizona, in recognition of his exceptional level of
community involvement, particularly with children. After a busy
afternoon of workshops, NACM members headed out to California Adventure for a relaxing evening
that included dinner, a stroll around the park, and a ride
on Disney’s “Soarin’ Over California” ride.
The 2008 Justice Achievement Award was presented at Tuesday’s opening. Representatives from the Superior Court of California, counties of Butte, Glenn, and Tehama accepted the award for their Self-Help Assistance and Referral Program (SHARP). Attendees heard from several court management icons as Marcus Reinkensmeyer moderated a session on Caseflow Management Excellence presented by Ernest Friesen with Maureen Solomon and John Clarke.
Wednesday morning began with the Fun Run/Walk bright and early, followed by committee meetings, Court 2 Court (formerly the Knowledge Fair), and the Exhibit Show.
Thursday morning’s keynote got the day started in a fun, positive way with dynamic speaker Greg Gray presenting on Desperately Seeking Service. After a morning of educational sessions, members enjoyed a family-style Mexican lunch, followed by the business meeting. A new board of directors was elected and sworn in, with Marcus Reinkensmeyer, court administrator for the Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County, as president. After a final afternoon of workshops, members attended a closing picnic-style dinner and dance.
Don’t miss next year’s conference in Boston, July 7-11.
